Having not achieved the grades for medical school, Samir spent a year after Sixth Form resitting various modules and after a year achieved a place at Liverpool. Since then, he has excelled in the medical profession and is a leading figure in surgery nationally. He now works as a lecturer in liver and pancreatic surgery in Bristol, whilst sitting on various national research and surgical committees.
Samir also co-founded Cricket Beyond Boundaries, which provides underprivileged young children the opportunity to spend time in UK to develop as cricketers and, more importantly, to widen their aspirations for life. It should be noted that he has also been an outstanding cricketer, representing English Universities and he is now an MCC playing member. Additionally, he sits on the MCC cricket committee with some of the greats of English cricket and is a trustee of the MCC Foundation. He has achieved all of this despite having an absent fibula in his right leg - indeed, it was this that led him towards a career in medicine and that adds to his determination.
