Bill Cobby

Attended Hymers College:

OH Staff 1902 - 1945

What makes this nominee inspiring?

Bill Cobby was a talented young rugby player who came to Hymers in 1902 and spent his whole career at Hymers. Bill was a tall, well built, wing forward who had played for England twice, 17 times for Yorkshire and was a founder member of the Hull and East Riding R.U.F.C. He made an admiral coach, emphasising that the forwards must learn to dribble in the Hymers mud. He travelled to school daily on the Hornsea train frim Swine where his father was Vicar. Hymers, coached by Bill Cobby, turned out fine rugby teams. Cobby reamined dear to the OH's for all he had done for the sport.
