Former teacher Ian Nicholls, OH Staff 1982-2015, recently (May 2024) came into school to tell the students all about the Humber Bridge Sportive on Sunday 23 June 2024 and how to get involved. He was joined by representatives from their leading charity P.A.U.L who talked about the amazing work their charity does!
This very popular event raises money for local charities and since 2014, over £1000,000 of donations has been made to a variety of organisations in the city. I am very grateful for the support we have received over the years from local businesses, Old Hymerians, teachers, and large numbers of Hymers parents who have enjoyed taking part in the event with their children.
For this final event, we are working with the charity P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery and presenting to the pupils in the assembly were: Paul Spence, founder of the charity Paul For Brain Recovery, and Kiernan Roberts – a young man recovering from a devastating brain injury. We will also be supporting a number of other local organisations as well.
Calling all cyclists, enter the event and enjoy one of three scenic routes (details of distances and gradients are available on the event website), crossing the Humber Bridge and following carefully planned and well sign-posted routes on the South Bank. Refreshment stations will be available at various points along the routes, providing hydration and the ever popular flapjack!
The entry process is straightforward and can be completed via the red button on the homepage of our website; www.humberbridgesportive.co.uk
If you would like additional background information, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me via info@humberbridgesportive.co.uk
I do hope you will be able to join us on Sunday, June 23rd 2024 at the Hesslewood Office Park, for what will be the final opportunity to take part in the event.
Many thanks
Ian Nicholls, OH Staff 1982-2015, Event Co-ordinator
Humber Bridge Sportive is a wonderful family-friendly event, which raises money for important local charities every year and has been a firm favourite on the Hymers Family calendar for many years. With three routes to choose from, it's suitable for the novice cyclist to the more advanced, so why not sign up and help raise money for these amazing causes!
