The 2023 Humber Bridge Sportive saw over 400 entrants signed up to ride one of the three available routes, all starting from the Hesslewood Office Park. This year saw several teams taking part, including a group of 45 riders, Phil's Pedal Party '23, from Hullensians Rugby Club who were raising money for Brain Tumour Research.

Junior School teacher and Old Hymerian, Chris Bloomfield (OH 2007-09) was part of Phil's Pedal Party '23, alongside his Dad.

The cycling went very well. We completed the 60 mile event in around 3 hours 30 mins which is a great effort from my Dad (who is 64). All in all, we raised over 10k that will be split between P.A.U.L AND Brain Tumour Research.

Special shout out to all the Hymers children who took part, the youngest being Oliver in Y6 who completed the 20 mile route.

Humber Bridge Sportive was set up in 2014 by former Hymers College teacher Ian Nicholls (1982-2015) and Hymers College parent, Andy Cawley:

Whilst we were unable to hold the event for 2 years during Covid, we did manage to raise funds for our charities through individual and team challenges, meaning that our grand total since 2014 has passed the £100,000 mark, enabling us to support dozens of local charities.

We are very grateful to our sponsors, several of whom are Old Hymerians, our volunteers, and, of course, the riders who take part.

Our main partner this year was P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery, but we are pleased to have been able to support the following charities:

  • The Hull Children’s University
  • Families Together Service
  • R-evolution
  • Fitmums
  • Mrs Cawley’s Little Stars
  • Elsie’s Appeal

Many thanks,

Ian & Andy.
