Gareth Atkins, OH 2000-07 came back to school in February (2025) to speak to our Business and Economic Society about his career in Insurance and his role at NFU Mutual at their Head Office in Stratford. 

Gareth shared his career journey after Hymers and sunsequent plans to become a Physio, his stint in Year 12 of Young Enterprise sewed the seed for an Economics degree. Gareth studied Chemistry, Biology and Economics at Hymers A Level and enjoyed Sixth Form life at Hymers before moving to Lancaster University to study an MSC in Economics where he got a First. 

Gareth has fond memories of his time at Hymers and enjoyed his Rugby days here including his trip to Canada on the Sports tour. Gareth has great friends from school that he remains in touch with and was able to spot a few familiar faces on the sports wall on his walk around the School. Gareth enjoyed catching up with former teachers, Mark McTeare, Steve Walmsley and Helen Jackson. He was also pleased to hear Mr Prescott. Mr Hickman and Charlie Gaynor Smith are also still teaching here

We were particularly grateful for Gareth travelling from the Midlands to speak to the students combined with a trip to see his family.
