Peter Galloway, OH 1971-81 spoke to the Sixth Form students online

Peter Galloway, OH 1971-81 returned virtually to the school to talk to the students from the Medic and Psychology Society.

After leaving Hymers, he continued his studies at Edinburgh University for the next six years, studying for a career in Medicine. This included a BSc(Med Sci) in Biochemistry. He then spent a year as a Junior House Officer before embarking on a further four years of General Medical training.  A six-month period in Paediatrics followed specialising in Clinical Biochemistry for the next six years.  He then worked for sixteen years at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) before moving to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (and GRI) for seven years.

After explaining his employment background, he presented about clinical scientists' roles in the NHS and how they differed compared to a biomedical scientist.  He also discussed various chemical methods, including Atomic Emission Spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry.

Thank you, Peter, for speaking to our students.
