We were delighted to welcome back Simon French, OH 1989-97, to chat to our sixth form students recently. Simon has worked for 10 years as the Chief Economist and Head of Research at the UK investment bank, Panmure Gordon. He was the top-ranked economist in the 2023 Institutional Investor survey, writes a regular column for The Times newspaper, and is a regular guest host on BBC TV/Radio, CNBC and Bloomberg.
Prior to joining Panmure Gordon he was a Senior Civil Servant in the Cabinet Office. He holds degrees in Economics and Finance from Durham University and is a member of both the Government Economic Service and the Society of Professional Economists.
His desire to follow a career in Economics came from the teachers he had at Hymers for A Level Economics before moving on to his Economics degree in Durham.
Simon gave some valuable insights into his day-to-day role in the City and his career path since starting his career working for the Cabinet Office and moving over to work within Investment Banking. Simon has also been an Economist writer for the Times for nearly 8 years.
Simon was able to share with the students what he looks for when recruiting and offered his services to any Old Hymerian who may want to reach out for anything further.
Thanks, Simon.
