Phil Beasley (OH 1988-98) visited Hymers to talk with our Sixth Form students at their Engineering Society. Phil shared his career journey from leaving Hymers to studying Engineering at Manchester and backpacking for a year out. Then through his progression at ASDA Logistics and on to his Supply Chain Consultant role. Phil shared his experience working within the Supply Chain industry and in particular the engineering side of it around automation and Network Design. He touched on his roles and responsibilities working at Asda Logistics prior to his career at Hatmill Supply Chain Consultants, which has a unique approach and structure: it’s an Employee-Owned company and there is no hierarchy at all.
Phil shared his reasons for choosing Manchester University and answered questions about this degree and other decisions our current students are making at the moment. Phil shared some great words of advice with the students about how he believes Hymers shaped him to be the person he is today and gave him the life and people skills he needed in the workplace. Things like humility, building relationships, learning to present, relinquishing tasks & passing on knowledge so you move on yourself.
Thanks, Phil for returning and chatting to the students; they are very appreciative of your time, and it was an absolute pleasure to have you back with us.
