The Law Society welcomed OH, Julian Tanikal back to the school at the start of October (2023). Julian is now a District Crown Prosecutor at Crown Prosecution Service and he spoke to our sixth form about his career since leaving Hymers in 1993 and his journey since then.
He gave some insightful and useful tips on his experience around choosing a degree and that it doesn't necessarily have to be law for a person to become a lawyer. His advice was to "do the subject you are going to enjoy the most at University". Julian also helpfully advised the students to sample all types of law before any decisions are made, as "the special you thought you didn't like may be your favourite".
Further advice to the students included to 'stand out from the crowd' and show you have a good work ethic, be that through a job or leadership roles at university or school.
Julian described his day-to-day role as a Crown Prosecutor and what can be expected working within the criminal sector. Our students were extremely grateful for the time Julian gave and took away a lot of useful information on where they can start to research their own law pathway.
