Chrissy came to talk to our current students in PHSE and shared her journey from Hymers in the early eighties to transitioning to where she is today. She spoke about the challenges of being gender non-conforming in a far from inclusive school environment, working through the challenges of choosing the wrong course at University, following a non-traditional path to building a career at DHL Supply Chain working in IT and transitioning at work.
Some of the highlights along the way included working on setting up the first petrol station convenience stores, building and running the UK Pandemic response supply chain, helping with Covid response and more recently managing systems for a global network supporting Clinical Trials across forty countries. She discussed the contrast both at Hymers and in the UK of inclusion and acceptance of LGBT people compared to when she first realised who she was at school. Chrissy was delighted to be able to share her story and see a co-educational, inclusive, positive and forward thinking school so different from her time at Hymers.
Thank you, Chrissy for taking the time to talk to the students.
