Kabaddi is a traditional game of South Asia played between 2 teams of seven players and is a contact sport. The Kabaddi World Cup 2025 took place this month with both men’s and women’s teams from across the World participating. It was the first time the World Cup has been held outside of Asia. The Welsh team came 4th in the World, reaching the Semi-Finals and playing against Hong Kong China, who won the third place bronze medal.
Amber, a key player for Women’s Team Wales, recently shared her reflections following a whirlwind week of competition in the world of Kabaddi. She expressed her honour in having represented her country and emphasised the unforgettable experiences she gained both on and off the field.
I feel honoured to have played for Women’s Team Wales and thanks to everyone who supported me back home on the TV. I’ve made the best experiences, met the most amazing people, all whilst enjoying a sport I love.
The week was not just about playing; it was about achieving, with Amber's team making it all the way to the Semi-Finals for the Bronze Medal. Despite the physical toll of the sport, Amber maintained a light-hearted approach to the challenges she faced during the tournament.
To have competed in the Semi-Finals for the Bronze Medal was such a great achievement, and I’ll carry that with me. A lot happened in just a week and I’ll cherish it. I may have ended up concussed with a fractured nose, but are you even playing Kabaddi if you’ve not been thrown around?
Reflecting on her time at Hymers Amber recalls;
I always looked forward to Wednesday afternoon and getting to use the gym. I was always looking to improve my overall health, fitness and strength training and the staff were very supportive and motivated me to show up and perform well.
We wish you well and look forward to watching you in more matches!
