We heard from Srinidhi Krishnan, OH 2011-21, who recently complete an intercalate in Psycology and has also recently spoken at the United Nations Commission.  She told us more below:

I was at Hymers from 2011 - 2021, and I’m currently in my fourth year studying medicine at the University of Cambridge.  Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to intercalate in Psychology, where I worked on a research project exploring how threat influences learning in OCD using virtual reality. This involved collaborating with Ninja Theory, a BAFTA-winning game company, who designed bespoke VR ‘threat’ scenarios for our study.

I recently wrote an article for the Medical Defence Union Student Hub Journal to share the benefits. Overall, studying psychology for the year was fascinating, and delving into a more essay-based, abstract discipline gave me the flexibility to explore my interests within the subject. The break from medicine’s intensity also gave me the chance to make the most of sports like netball and kayaking and even join an Indian dance troupe!

Outside of academics, I was honoured to speak at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 2025, delivering a talk titled:
"The Global Gaslighting Epidemic: Women’s Pain Dismissed, Voices Silenced." I addressed the deep-rooted medical biases that continue to silence women in healthcare settings worldwide. My talk covered the historical origins of this issue and proposed strategies to dismantle stigma, ensure equal representation in medical research, and reshape the way women's health is perceived and treated.

It was inspiring to share the stage with speakers from Nigeria, India, Australia, and Canada, all contributing unique perspectives to this vital global conversation. The experience reinforced the power of collective action and the shared passion driving progress in women’s health.
