On the 8th March 2025, Paddy Whur, OH 1975-83 and his wife Jacquie, will be embarking on a fundraising mission for Beaumond House Hospice Care.  Paddy, is a trustee of the hospice, which helps over 550 people and their families each year.

They will be spending six nights trekking through the Arctic wilderness, inside the Arctic Circle, and will be on cross country skis, trekking for around six hours per day.  If that wasn't enough hard work, they will each be pulling a 30kg pulk with all supplies for the duration and the shared group tent. Part of a team of six people, they will be fully self sufficient for the duration, collecting wood for fires, so that they can cook, melt snow for water etc.  They will wild camp completely off the trails in Lapland.

I am a trustee of Beaumond House Hospice and have been fund raising for them for the last three years.  The charity is very close to my heart, because my good friend had the benefit of their care at the end of her life.  I’ve seen first-hand the work everyone puts in to provide the support they do and I was blown away by how much is needed in donations to allow the charity to provide its services. That’s why I do so much fundraising for them.

Last year, my wife and I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for the hospice. Through all of our sponsorship we managed to get £26,000 for the hospice and the Notts & Lincs air ambulance.

This year, along with 4 others, we are cross country skiing in Finland, 300 miles north of the arctic circle. We are having to tow everything we need in a sled behind us and camping each night.

Good luck to Paddy and Jacquie with the expedition.
