Ian Bullock, OH 1984-88 studied at Hymers College for four years before he moved out of the area. Since then, he has carved out a career in accounting and financial management, and is now a Senior Project Accountant at Swiss Re, one of the world's largest reinsurers.
Every year, Ian takes part in a charity event, which his generous employer, doubles the amount of donations. Together, they have raised a considerable amount of money which has benefitted many good causes.
On Sunday, 17 November, Ian will be taking part in The Hartfield Honey Run 2024, a challenging half-marathon race through the stunning countryside, with the start and finish in the historic village of Hartfield.
This year, he is raising money for Blood Cancer UK, who are a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. They do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, they've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, their community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day they will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
I chose the Honey Run as it is a great countryside route and a great escape from the usual City life that I have in Clapham. It is something I have done before but not at this distance! So it will be tough as it is off road and a very long way.
I do a charity event every year and I am fortunate that my company, Swiss Re doubles all donations. So, over the 20 years I have worked there, they and I have raised thousands of pounds for good causes.
Last year I did a half marathon dressed in the official Guide Dog outfit, which was very tough but very hot! In 2022, I ran the London marathon for the same cause, 10 years on from the first time I ran it, which was similarly arranged through a charity place through work.

Good luck, Ian, with your fundraising efforts!
