We were delighted to hear from Roger McKerlie, OH 1975-82, who shared a photo of his recent reunion with school friends.

After leaving Hymers, most of us headed down to London post uni and we saw each other regularly down there.  In fact I shared a house in Tooting with John Lyons, OH 1974-81, Nick Ramshaw, OH 1972-82 and Nick Smales, OH 1973-83, when I first moved to London in 1986, until all but me drifted back up north.

Since 2000, we have held our reunions in northern cities and towns on rotation and we hadn’t been back to Hull since 2014, although we were in Beverley 3 years ago. It was good and a bit weird to be back, and sadly as it was just after the riots the “new town”, from the station to Whitefriargate, looked a bit down at heal and in desperate need of investment. I was, however hugely impressed with the areas around the old town and the river.  The marina could easily have been somewhere in the south of France the night we were there!

I also went to watch Hull City on the Saturday and we got a sneak view of some of the changes at the school as we walked to the stadium. I would like to visit some time to see how much work has been done.

Jim Young (OH 1971-81), Sid Nicholls (OH 1977-81), Ian McGuire (OH 1972-82), John and I all played in a very successful rugby 1st XV between 1981 and 1982.
