Charlotte Hutchinson (née Parker) studied at Hymers College between 1995 and 2000, before returning to work in the school's Biology Department.  At the start of 2024, she recently changed job roles from Assistant Biology Technician to Marketing and Admissions Assistant.

I assist the Head of Marketing and Admissions, Laura Booth, in the delivery of the Hymers College marketing and admissions function, across both the Hymers College and the Hymers Hessle Mount campuses.  I work with prospective parents and pupils, as well as school staff, and work closely with Laura to organise events, including Open Mornings and Entrance Assessments.  I’m also responsible for producing content for our social media channels and website, and many other things that I’m still learning from Laura!

I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying it!  I started at the most difficult time of year as we were doing our admission assessments so the office was very busy – a real baptism of fire!  However,  I am loving every minute of it.

Being both the marketing and admissions assistant, it means I have to be prepared to constantly switch from dealing with admissions related tasks or queries, to marketing duties, but it means every moment of every day is different, and I’m never bored!

This role has been a complete change in career path for me as my background is science, and I have particularly relished the opportunities it’s presented to learn new skills and gain confidence in new areas.  I’m currently learning how to master the use of a gimbal (a device used to stabilise a camera while you record footage) and how to make (hopefully) engaging reels for social media. That’s today at least. Tomorrow, I will be learning something completely different, and I cannot wait!!
