The show is an original story written by Tim Firth that uses 17 Madness songs throughout. It focuses around Joe Casey who, when trying to impress his girlfriend, Sarah, splits his life in two. The rest of the musical follows both versions of Joe (good and bad) and shows what would have happened, dependent on his decisions in life.
Rachel Wheatley (OH 2012-22) is playing Sarah in the show and told us more about it:
It is such an amazing opportunity. It felt intimidating at first joining such an established company like ‘Hessle Theatre Company’ but performing in shows at school prepared me for the process and I’m having the best time!
So many incredible opportunities have come from being the show, I was on the radio on Monday talking about it and we have a TV crew coming to rehearsal tonight. As someone who initially regretted a gap year, I can now say it’s the best thing I could have done as the performing experience I’m getting is unmatched.
The show is on next week! The 18th to 22nd of April (2023) at Hull New Theatre. It’s going to be a couple of hours of madness (pun intended) so I would highly recommend coming along!
Also, performing in the show is Elinor Kirby (OH 2005-15) who will be playing the role of Angie, Sarah's best friend, with Sarah Lucy Penny OH 2002-12 as Musical Director. Mark Gillyon-Powell who attended Hymers between 1980-88 is the costumier for the show, making this production a fantastic opportunity to see some Hymers alumni talent.
