We are extremely grateful to George Burns (OH 2015-17), for visiting our Biology Society. George is currently in his fifth and final year at Surrey University studying Veterinary Science. He spoke to the Sixth Formers about his experience with the application process for Vet Science and answered any questions our aspiring vets had.
During the talk, he spoke about the challenges he faced getting into university and how, after not reaching his full potential in his A levels, he decided to re-sit them in order to get the required grades.
He thanked the School for the support that the teachers gave him, in particular Mr Thompson (former staff, 1986-2017), who helped him get into Veterinary School and also how past alumni helped him on the way, from his university application to helping with work experience. It was this latter support that motivated George to give back and talk to the current Biology Society.
He gave tips on completing the personal statement for university applications and spoke of the different interview procedures he experienced, before answering questions from the students.
His talk focused on motivating the students to do their best, be themselves and to not give up on what they want to do.
Thank you, George and good luck in the rest of your studies.
