Galen Korosec started Hymers College in Year 8 and attended between 2012 and 2018. Since leaving Hymers, he has gained a degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of York and is now completing a Masters in Engineering at the University of Bath. Next year, he will be working as a product/propulsion engineer at JRL.
Whilst at Hymers College, in 2015, he embarked on his Silver Award for Duke of Edinburgh, completing it the following year. He then continued to work on the Gold Award while in the Sixth Form, gaining the achievement in 2018. For both awards, they involved expeditions in the Peak District.
Last month (May 2022), Galen received his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award which was delayed due to the COVID pandemic.
The D of E experience for both silver and gold are some of the fondest memories I have from my time at Hymers. It gave me an opportunity to push myself and try new things. Additionally, it forced me to practice and improve my organisational skills, which is something I am grateful to have improved. I am grateful for the guidance provided by Mr Summers and Mr Young, and all the other teachers who assisted with the expedition.
Congratulations, Galen!
