William Hearnshaw attended Hymers College between 1997 and 2007. During his time here, he was an active member of the cadets:
Mr Summers and that Detachment are absolutely what got me where I am today!
After leaving Hymers College, William went onto study law at the University of Sheffield. After university, in 2014, he enrolled at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, joining the British Army full time.
'Through Life Development' is a really important part of being in the British Army and he has just completed a Masters Degree in Defence Leadership with Cranfield University.
I learnt a huge amount, both theoretical and practical, and my writing has improved dramatically. The Army funded all tuition costs, gave me time away from work to complete the residential modules without taking leave, and supported my dissertation research.
The degree had RN, RAF, Army and CS personnel on it from all over Defence. Both Officers and Soldiers. A great network. If you're in Defence take a look at the External Placement (Academic) options. Part time is difficult to balance but vastly rewarding.
Congratulations William on your successful Army Career, that started with Hymers Cadets.
