Grafton Morrish Trophy 1964

Martyn Green, OH 1954-61 and former Southern Branch OHA President for 21 years, returned to play at Hunstanton Golf Club in September 2023, around the 59th anniversary of the OHA golf team reaching the semi-finals of the Grafton Morrish Trophy in 1964, with Martyn being the 6th member of the team.

Back then, the first round was played at Brancaster in some of the most appalling weather conditions Martyn had ever seen. The second round however was in breezy, sunny conditions at Hunstanton in the afternoon against King Edward’s Birmingham, two of whose team called Martyn and brother Andrew OH 1956-64, a couple of ‘effing houdinis’ after a number of outrageous pieces of luck!

Unfortunately, a narrow defeat followed in the semi-finals against ‘Nautical Pangbourne’ as they were then known.

The other four team members were Gordon Edmond OH 1943-50, Bill Bentley OH 1932-39, Ken Evans OH 1926-27, and David Carter (OH 1946-54). Happy days!

At Hunstanton Golf Club, the Hymers school badge can be seen above the bar.
