Life After Hymers |
Health and Medicine |
At the end of the Autumn term (2024), Mark Clayton, OH 1995-2002 returned to Hymers College to talk to our aspiring medical students about his work with the Air Ambulance and also being a volunteer for St John Ambulance for many years. During his presentation, he reflected on his time at Hymers College and how it helped support him get in to medical school. He has since taken a number of different routes in medicine and has loved the variety of these roles.
Mark has many interesting stories about his medical career and volunteering. In 2022, as part of Operation London Bridge, when the late Queen Elizabeth II passed away, St John put into action a well documented plan to provide medical cover for the duration of the period of national mourning and the state funeral that would follow. Mark was deployed to provide cover to the Mall and Hyde Park, the queue for the Lying in State and was based inside Westminster Abbey for the funeral itself.
He has also been featured as an expert witness for one of the country's most senior Coroners, which featured on Channel Five’s television series “Cause of Death”, relating to his work at festivals.
Thank you, Mark, for coming to Hymers to speak to our students.
