Dr Ian Lewins returns to speak to our aspiring medics

Ian spoke to our students about his career since leaving Hymers after his A Levels

We welcomed back Dr Ian Lewins, OH 1983-93, Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine in recent weeks to talk to our aspiring medics about their options after a medical degree at Hymers.

After graduating from Nottingham University, Ian has followed an extensive career path within medicine. As a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB), he has over 22 years of experience in providing high-quality care to children and young people in urgent and emergency situations. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH), demonstrating his commitment to excellence and professionalism in his field.

In addition to his clinical role, he is passionate about advancing medical education and quality improvement within UHDB and beyond. He is  the Deputy Director of Postgraduate Medical Education, responsible for overseeing the training and development of junior doctors and other healthcare professionals. He is also the Assistant Clinical Director for the Children’s Emergency Department, leading a team of dedicated staff in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred services. He has initiated and participated in multiple projects and initiatives to enhance the quality and standards of care, education, and governance in his department and trust.

Ian spoke fondly of his time at Hymers and his former teachers. Thank you Ian for gifting us your valuable time to talk to the next generation of medics.
