Life After Hymers |
We recently welcomed Oliver Cook, OH 1990-99 back to the school, which he was visiting to donate his England 7s Rugby Shirt.
During his time at Hymers College, Oliver regularly played for the school team, gaining Full Colours and also representing North of England (18 Group). After leaving Hymers College, Oliver went to Northumbria University but continued his rugby career.
He played for Ionians for a year, alongside former school friend Greg Bone (OH 1986-96 and current Hymers' Rugby Teacher). For a while, Oliver played professionally for teams that included Harrogate (3 years), Doncaster (4 years), Sedgley Park (one year), before he played abroad for Avignon (France) for a year. On his return, he played for Hull RUFC for a further 5 years.
In 2009, while he was involved with the England 7s for a couple of years, he was capped at Murrayfield (Scotland International Grounds).
During his visit to Hymers, he was reunited with ex-teammate Greg, who gave him a tour of the school and of course, particular of interest to Oliver were the new sports facilities that have been built and developed since his time here.
