Life After Hymers |
OH Sam Elstone, a pupil at Hymers from 2011 to 2019, recently represented Scotland at the ICC Under 19s World Cup in the West Indies.
Sam was a keen cricketer whilst at Hymers, and represented Yorkshire age-group sides whilst at the school. He moved away from the area aged 16, but continued to play at his new school and for Weston-Super-Mare CC 1st XI and Somerset Under 18s. He also played a handful of matches for Somerset 2nd XI, competing against former England players such as Steve Finn and Dom Sibley.
Having been born near Glasgow, Sam represented Scotland at Under 15 and Under 17, and was selected for the U19 World Cup squad for the qualifying tournament in Spain in September and the finals, held in the West Indies in January, where he played against Australia, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.
Sam described the experience as ‘unforgettable’ although it was somewhat marred by covid restrictions which meant the players could not travel outside the playing grounds and hotel resorts, and by Scotland’s rather disappointing performance in their matches.
Sam is now a student at Cardiff University where he is a member of the UCCE cricket squad.
