Life After Hymers |
After leaving Hymers College in 2015, Oliver went on to study Business/Managerial Economics at University of Hull, where he gained a First Class Degree. He continued his education at University of York, studying a Master's Degree in Economics, which resulted in a Distinction.
Oliver also performs in the band King Orange, along with members Tom and Leo. Their single ‘Fifteen’ aired on Radio 1 as part of the Huw Stephens show in the lead-up to Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2017.
We take influences from multiple genres and have a wide and varied sound, with verses based around the music of more effects driven and shoegaze bands such as Foals and DIIV, and choruses filling out with Wolf Alice and Biffy Clyro-style overdrive and crunch. On top of this, metal-inspired breakdowns bring in influences from the heavier scene, and low lying vocals have gained comparisons to Protomartyr, Editors and Joy Division. After working with Pat Pretorius, debut single ‘15’ is due to be released in the next couple of months though Warren Records.
Oliver was interviewed in 2019, along with his band mates, about his music ambitions. The interview can be viewed here:
