Lucy recently got in touch to tell us about her life since leaving Hymers College in 2004 and how she is now Head Teacher at a local primary school.

I went to university and studied Psychology after leaving Hymers. I wanted to become an educational psychologist. Years ago, you had to have trained and been a teacher to be allowed to apply for the course so I applied and I completed the Graduate Teacher Programme at Stepney Primary School. This was also where I carried out my dissertation.

I loved the school and although initially I had wanted to become an Ed Psych, my heart was with the children of Hull. I loved working in inner city schools.

Later on, I moved to Pearson Primary School as the assistant head. I gained my Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) for teaching of maths and writing and became a writing moderator. Whilst in my role at Pearson, I was given fantastic opportunities within the trust to deliver training on writing, maths and work with other school as part of my SLE role.

I then moved to Stoneferry as Deputy Head and continued to work for the Standards and Testing Agency as a lead moderator and whole class teaching whilst leading the school with Jon Raw (Head of School). I loved my time at Stoneferry and completed the NPQH qualification.

Three years later, the role of Head Teacher at Brandesburton came up. I came and was shown round the school by the head at that time, Jo Ledingham. The feeling I got from the school was amazing. Children were at the very heart of everything. I knew from the first visit, I wanted to be part of something so incredibly special.

Outside of work, Lucy competes at dressage and is a long-distance runner, with her most recent race being 50 miles from Beverley to Malton.
