Old Hymerian, Laura Copley, shared how sport at Hymers College has influenced her lifestyle since leaving in 2016.

Throughout her time at Hymers, Laura participated in a variety of sports, reaching national finals in Athletics, Netball, Hockey and Swimming. Her hockey successes involved playing for Penine Pumas at the Futures Cup and trialling for the England Schools Game team. In netball, she played at Regional level and competed at 3 national finals for Chevrons Netball Club. In athletics, she represented Hymers College at English Schools for 4 consecutive years. Laura commented “I have some amazing memories from these competitions as you have a long weekend away competing with total strangers from other schools in your area!”

Laura is now a final year Veterinary Medicine Student at the University of Nottingham. Upon starting university, she took on the role of Netball President giving her the opportunity to coach and organise committee meetings, tournaments and fundraising events.

In 2019, Laura completed the London Marathon and summited Mount Kilimanjaro, raising over £2500 for The Brain Charity. She recently set up her own fitness company, LC Fitness, with an aim to “increase participation in exercise improving both mental and physical health whilst sharing my passion and enthusiasm for sport and exercise!”
