We recently visited London for our fourth annual drinks in the city and we were delighted to reconnect with former students and staff who now live or work in the area. Joining the Development Office for the evening, was Headmaster Justin Stanley, giving him the opportunity to catch up with some of our new Old Hymerians and meet more of the wider OH community.
Good friends, Abby Wilson, OH 1990-97 and Matthew Glenn, OH 1985-92, attended Hymers College at different times, but since meeting at our first drinks evening in 2022, have maintained a friendship. It is always heart warning to hear of new friendships forged as a result of the school connection.
Oscar Shutt, OH 2013-22 was surprised to bump into Andrew Plaistow, OH 1985-95 in the evening. Oscar remembered Andrew from presenting a school assembly and he was so inspiring that he asked Andrew to return to give a more specific talk to the members of the Equality and Diversity Society that Oscar had founded.
Two of our younger alumni to join us were second year university students Eliza Good, OH 2013-23 and Finn Starky, OH 2013-23. Gemma Wood, OH 2011-21 also joined us this year, after moving down to London after finishing university last year. Gemma comes from a line of Hymers College alumni, with her Dad, aunts and cousins all attending the school over the years.
We were also pleased to see Galen Korosec, OH 2012-18 who recently moved from Warwick to London and Patric Lam, OH 2010-12, who is currently pursuing an MSc in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology at Cranfield University. As well as our younger alumni, we were also joined by Chris Bradfield, OH 1960-67 and Nicholas Cliffe, OH 1966-76 for the evening.
Felix Dickenson, OH 2009-16 and OH staff 2021 also joined for his first OH event since leaving the school. After leaving Hymers College as a student, Felix returned briefly as a music teacher to provide cover during maternity leave. Now a Recording Studio and Production Co-ordinator at the Royal Academy of Music, he had many happy memories of both studying and teaching at Hymers College.
The evening resulted in lots of mingling, with new acquaintances and friendships formed. Thank you to all those who attended and we look forward to catching up with more alumni at future events.
