Our last HymersCAN! event of 2024 took place in December and we welcomed back to the school Nick Aitken, OH 1986-96, Jack Latus, OH 1998-2007 and Rob Vickerman, OH 1994-2004.
The event was aimed at our older students who were considering career pathways in Sports and Languages, or a combination of both, as was the case for Nick, who now translates at sporting events.
They shared their journeys from Hymers and their own lessons on perseverance, resilience and how career paths have taken different directions. They shared their very fond memories of their school friends at Hymers and the connections that they have all made along the way.
A prevalent theme when hearing from them all was about the networks, they have each made along the way and the value of the OH alumni network.
Rob's children are now at the school making them a 4th generation family to attend Hymers College. Head of Psychology and Deputy Director of Sixth Form, Sam Clare, OH 1988-98 was Rob's prefect at Hymers and Rob was Jack's prefect!
Again, the evening was a popular event amongst our students and their families, and former Modern Languages teacher, Elizabeth Powell, OH 1988-2006, who was mentioned by her former students on the panel, was spotted in the audience, with her grandson.
Thank you to Nick, Jack and Rob for supporting our latest career event for our students. Your help is invaluable and of huge benefit to Hymers' students.
