This holiday season, parents, former parents and Old Hymerians gathered for a festive and creative wreath making workshop. Held in the Main Hall, this was a brilliant opportunity to learn a new skill and supporting The John Hymers Bursary Fund.

Led by Bethany from Bishop Burton College, participants were guided through each step. Using a variety of natural materials including fir and eucalyptus, dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, pine cone and ribbons. Some chose to keep their wreaths traditional and others added their own unique touches. Whilst learning a new skill, they enjoyed a mulled wine and mince pie and the camaraderie of fellow crafters, new and experienced. The scents of the wreaths, mulled wine and mince pies certainly added to a wonderful atmosphere. All crafters left with a wreath ready to hang up on their door.

The event was attended by a number of Old Hymerians that had not been back to the school in a number of years, in one case, over 29! Many commented whilst fond memories were brought back, they could also see how the school had changed and progressed with modern times. When wreaths where complete, time allowed for a quick wander of the Main Hall to look through classroom doors and find their old locker.

"What a wonderful evening. Thank you so much or organising a really special event. My first wreath making event and the bar has been set really high. Can’t wait to book on again for near year."

All proceeds from the event will go towards The John Hymers' Bursary Fund. We are extremely grateful to our generous donors who support The John Hymers Bursary Fund. Without you it would not be possible to provide life changing bursary placements to talented children regardless of their background. The success of the wreath making workshop is a reminder of the power of creativity and collaboration, proving that even small efforts can make a big impact.

Thank you to everyone that attended on a cold Monday evening!
