This year, we hosted our Founder's and Benefactors' Day on the last day before the half term break.  We were joined by many of our alumni who came to celebrate the opening of Hymers College on 30th October 1893.

Our guests gathered in Gore before lunch, where they were treated to a performance from the school's Jazz Band.  Over lunch, we were delighted to catch up with some new faces of former students who haven't visited the school for a number of years.  As ever, we were pleased to welcome back to the school former teachers Andrew Penny, OH Staff 1977-2022, Elizabeth Powell, OH Staff 1988-2006, Richard Summers, OH Staff 1989-2022 and Geoff Wilson, OH Staff 1970-2006.

After lunch, many of our alumni gathered for a tour of the school, to learn more about its history.  Did you know that Hymers College was set up with the intention to take a small number of boarders or that the Junior School students originally used rooms A5 to A8 before there was a separate Junior School building?

Our alumni then gathered in the Main Hall to attend our Founder's and Benefactors' Day school assembly.  For many of our alumni, this was their first school assembly since leaving Hymers College!  As part of the school assembly, Andrew Penny returned to the stage to deliver his reading about the importance of celebrating a Founder's and Benefactors' Day.

Just to say thank you to all who made yesterday's event so special, we enjoyed it very much. Attending a service in the Main Hall for the first time in 50 years brought back many memories - I could almost hear my old pals talking near the locker where we used to congregate at break time.

Many thanks to Emily, Vikki and Jane for organising such an enjoyable lunch and tour yesterday. It was great to sit in a packed hall again - took me right back!

Just wanted to thank you, Vikki and Jane for your kindness yesterday.  I much enjoyed catching up with a number of memorable alumni!, chatting with Governors, the Head and parents.

Great event and wonderful tour guide.  Learnt some information I never knew and saw my old locker!  Nostalgic.  Thanks to Emily, Vikki and Jane.
