The Development Office travelled to Cambridge for our latest Drinks Evening, to the Castle Inn. We enjoyed drinks with our alumni who were working and studying in the area, from across the generations, and had the chance to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate a shared passion for Hymers in a spectacular, joyful evening.

Peter Cowley, OH 1964-73 was one of the first to join us, along with former Music teacher, Andrew Penny, OH Staff 1977-2022.  Peter has recently returned from a trip to  Antarctica and is currently promoting his book, Public Success, Private Grief.  Andrew, due to his lengthy time at the school, knew nearly everyone in the room, through either teaching or from attending past OH events.

Some of our more recent leavers, including the youngest at the event, Mohammed Hamid, OH 2019-23, were able to catch up and discuss university life. They shared how they meet up a couple of times a year at the different colleges in Cambridge.

Also joining us, were our retired alumni, Dick Paden, OH 1949-59, and David Gosling, OH 1948-57.  They chatted to the younger generation to hear how they were getting on, as well as Old Hymerian friends that they had met over the years.

It was great to see many younger 'Old Hymerians' join us for the evening; medic leavers from 2020 - 2024 who hadn't met before, left the evening with new contacts and offers of support from each other. Moments like these reaffirm the power of the OH network in fostering mentorship, guidance, and inspiration for the next generation. It's a testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration and support that defines our OH community

Feedback:

Thanks to you and your colleagues for the visit.  It was very much appreciated on our side and I had good chats with the recent Hymerians.  Please give my good wishes to the headmaster and come and see us again.

I enjoyed the drinks evening.  Thanks to you and your colleagues in OH for setting it up.

Over in Cambridge, New Zealand, we also heard from a couple of our alumni living there.  Please see below to hear about their 'Cambridge' Drinks.

The 'Real' Cambridge Drinks

Peter Carr (OH 1949-57) contacted us last month about his Cambridge drinks evening with Kevin Gaunt (OH 1960-65), but in a different Cambridge ... Cambridge, New Zealand.

The Cambridge branch of OH (the REAL Cambridge) held their annual general meeting and refreshments afterwards on Saturday, February 10th 2024.

As you can see from the accompanying photograph there was a 100 per cent attendance and the members were joined by their wives Robyn and Dorothy.

The gathering was a huge social success and the accompanying photo shows Peter Carr (left), who joined Form 1 in 1949 and Kevin Gaunt (right), who entered in the Lower Third in 1963.

A motion was passed to make this a regular event!
