Thursday 23 March saw the Development Office hold its second lunch of the year in the Memorial Hall. We were delighted to see our regular faces again but this time we were joined by 17 former staff, some of who had not visited the school since retirement.
From the Senior School, Mary Chorlton, Neil King, Paul Meadway, Anne Powell, Elizabeth Powell, Richard Summers, and Geoff Wilson attended, and from the Junior School, there were Jean Dex, Sylvia Hood, Felicity Rix, Sally Sinkler, and Andy Taylor. They were also joined by Music teachers Diana Bushby, Marion Riley, and Andrew Penny, along with former Bursar, Geoffrey Noble and former Alumni Manager, Bridget Renwick. It was a pleasure to have them back on the School Grounds.
The Time Capsule Club also attended the lunch to hand over their Time Capsule, a three-year-long project to commemorate life during COVID (please see News Article Time Capsule to read more on their project). During the lunch, they were able to talk to some of the Old Hymerians about their experiences at school, along with seeing some of their former Junior School teachers.
After lunch, some of the former students undertook a tour of the school, where they watched some students dissect a kidney. They seemed keen to get involved in the lesson, especially as one was a former surgeon.
Our next lunch will be held on Wednesday, 17 May 2023. We hope to see you there.

Thank you all for arranging lunch at the school, and most of all for extending an invitation and warm welcome to me on my return after 9 years. You enabled me after so long to see colleagues and friends from my time at Hymers, some who had left the school before me, some after me, and others still in harness. I shall be only too pleased to stay in touch with all of you.
I would like to thank you and the team so very much for making today such a success. I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to catch up with old students and colleagues. The food was delicious and you were the perfect hostess. I do know just how much effort goes into making something run like clockwork. You really have made a difference and it is much appreciated. Keep up the good work. Do give my sincere thanks to all.
My sincere thanks to Emily and all the alumni team, as well as the Old Hymerians, for hosting a convivial and happy occasion. A lot of hard work must have gone into producing such a smooth operation! It was lovely to meet old friends (and make some new ones!) and to hear about the Time Capsule project from the talented young pupils, too. Many thanks for a memorable day!
A big thank you to the Team for today’s lunch; magnifique occasion and lovely to meet up with you all again especially in the memorable Memorial Hall. I think I mentioned my long attachment with the Hall in those now distant school days. Classical music concerts were the beginning of my musical adventure through life.
Just a short note to say a big thank you to you and your colleagues in organising such an enjoyable afternoon lunch today. It was great catching up with some old friends and teachers I haven’t seen for years.
