London Drinks 2023

The evening was held at the Slug and Lettuce in Aldgate, London

The Development Team alongside former teachers, Andrew Penny and Richard Summers, hosted an evening of OH chat and memories in Aldgate in March. Over 45 Old Hymerians gathered despite the snow and blizzards; it was encouraging to see so many new faces at this now-annual event held for our OH community.

The youngest Old Hymerians were in their second term at university and our eldest left in 1967 - demonstrating the contrast in the Old Hymerian community. Particularly, when introducing a 2018 leaver to a 1993 leaver "I wasn't even born when you left school!" We also enjoyed welcoming some of the first cohorts of girls who attended in the Sixth Form before Hymers went fully co-educational. We had first-year chemistry and architecture students, lawyers, bankers, builders, musicians, teachers, and philanthropists all with a common thread - Hymers College.

We were honoured to have Bansari Patel, President and Dominic Voase, Vice President of Southern Branch, and Will Hairsine Deputy President of the Old Hymerians Association with us to share memories and introduce new faces to each other. Andrew Chorlton and Matthew Fitzpatrick attended and this year they were not just Mrs Chorlton and Fitzy's sons - just Andrew and Matthew!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, thank you for coming and we look forward to seeing you again next time. There are a lot of Old Hymerians who attend alone and then groups who organise to meet their year group - either goes, you won't be alone if you attend an OH event.

Thank you Emily, lovely to see you, and cracking to catch up with a few old faces, and in particular great to chat with Andrew Penny

I haven't ever been back to a school event, however, if I had known it was this much fun and diverse I would have been back sooner.

Thank you for having me once again, always a pleasure!

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the London reunion.  It was lovely speaking to you and the other Old Hymerians so please do keep in touch. Many thanks for organising!

Thanks so much for the lovely evening which I really enjoyed!  It was great to reconnect with Hymers and all its wonderful people!  And the food and drink were very nice too!
