On Friday 11 November, Hymers College held its first full Remembrance Service in three years, since the pandemic. Old Hymerians joined us to reflect on the lives lost in conflict, particularly of those who were part of the school community.
During the service, the names were read out of the 208 Old Hymerians who have lost their lives fighting for this country. For each name read out, a student in the Main Hall stood up in remembrance. After the service, all students filed past the War Memorial, where poppy wreaths were laid earlier in the service, before returning to their classes.
After the service, Old Hymerians enjoyed lunch in The Gore, where they were joined by The Time Capsule Club, who spoke to our guests about their memories of the war and how school life was affected in the years afterwards. Music Teacher, Lester Bartlett also visited during lunch to play the School Song on the piano, which lead to a loud chorus.
